What is Oriental Medicine?

Oriental Medicine dates back over 5000 years and is the oldest form of medicine in the world. Complete with its own theory, diagnosis and treatment it is a stand alone healing system. Oriental Medicine started as manual massage techniques that have evolved over the thousands of years and refined techniques to the most effective ones based on empirical and scientific evidence. Currently Oriental Medicine exists today in China and elsewhere in hospitals along side Western Medicine. The 4 main Oriental Medicine forms are Acupuncture, Herbs, Tui Na (medicinal form of massage), and a Therapeutic Massage form similar to Circulatory Massage.
Using a system of meridians (paths of energy) and acupoints a balance is formed in the body through tonifying areas and releasing tension out of others. Oriental Medicine is considered a Holistic form of medicine as it is concerned with fixing root problems and looking at treating the body as a whole.
